5.0 One of the best

by Jeffrey from Portland, Or on Jul 25, 2011

I discovered Cafe Britt on a trip to Costa Rica in 2008, and have explored most of their offerings by mail since then. This Mexico Coatlicue product is one of the very best. Wonderful aroma draws you to an equally exceptional taste. Just the right roast to showcase this high quality bean. Every guest who has tried it, has exclaimed about it too. Worth the investment.

4.0 Mexican Coatlicue Organic

by Steve Burgess from Portsmouth on Mar 9, 2011

I was relatively pleased with the product although it didn't match up with the satisfaction of the Costa Rican blend. Good taste though not as smooth.

Product Detail

This internationally certified organic blend comes from the rich coffee growing region of Southern Mexico, where jaguars smile and monarch butterflies float. Named for the Aztec earth goddess, this shade grown organic coffee has a subtle flavor characteristic of Mexican coffee grown between 3,900 and 5,400 ft (1,200- 1,650 mts) above sea level.

Wet and tropical, this region’s central highlands are home to soaring eagles and rich ecosystems with special indigenous significance. Mayan legend reveres the mighty jaguar as the sun god transformed into a feline to conquer the night and ensure the arrival of a new day – perfect for an enticing cup of this remarkable Mexican coffee.

  • 100% Arabica SHB (Strictly Hard Bean).

Coffee Connoisseur

Mexico is believed to be one of the leading producers of organic coffee in the world with an estimated 60% of world production. Most of the Mexican organic coffee is produced on small farms in the southern most states.  The Mexican coffee farmers were using organic methods long before organic farming became popular – their organic practices originally stemmed from a lack of resources.

Farmers in rural regions on small coffee plantations were not able to afford pesticides and fertilizers. As a means of survival, they developed natural methods of growing fine coffee beans and warding off harmful pests.  It is said that today’s organic coffee market is one of the rewards for the many years the farmer’s struggled to survive with meager means.  Today, certified organic farmers earn 15-20% more for their coffee beans compared to other producers.  Their traditional and natural methods have paid off not only by keeping harmful chemicals off the earth, and protecting the invaluable ecosystems, but also earning additional income.

Café Britt’s Coatlicue Shade Grown Organic Mexican coffee is 100% organic certified and is named for the Aztec goddess who is said to have given birth to all celestial things.  Our blend of the finest organically grown Mexican coffee beans, is selected from the Tila, Yajalon, and Chiapas regions.  The coffee beans are medium roasted and deliver floral aromas with a touch of citrus flavor.  Coatlicue, the goddess, would surely be honored with this earth friendly, heavenly brew.
